Ornella Ongaro, affectionately nicknamed “The Tulip,” began her journey in motorsport at the young age of five, riding a PW 50. As an experienced French racer with a long and decorated career, she always knew she was destined to become a competitive driver from an early age. In 2009, Ornella made history by becoming the first female rider to win a mixed event during a national championship, an achievement that secured her a place in world motorcycle history. She remains the only female rider to have beaten current MotoGP stars such as Marc Márquez, Pol Espargaró, Maverick Viñales, and Johann Zarco. Her remarkable career continued as she claimed second place in the 125cc French Championship in 2009. That same year, she became the first Frenchwoman to secure a GP wild card entry for the 125cc French Grand Prix. In 2011, Ornella became the youngest French racer and the first French woman to participate in the prestigious North West 200, a renowned road race in Ireland. Competing in the 600cc category, she achieved the fastest time ever recorded by a female rider in the event’s history. A Triumphant Return After a seven-year hiatus, Ornella made a spectacular comeback in 2024, earning selection to represent France in the first-ever 100% women’s world championship, WORLDWCR. She finished in the Top 10 and was honored with the Best Finish Award Winner title. Looking ahead to 2025, her mantra is simple: Win, Win, Win. Her dedication, resilience, and passion for racing continue to inspire and break barriers in the motorsport world.
